Abstract. This article critically examines the declining standards of doctoral research in certain universities, highlighting the commercialisation of Ph.D. degrees, ghostwriting, inadequate supervision, and the manipulation of research for personal and professional gains.

Raoof Khair is a noted Urdu poet, fiction writer, literary critic, and translator from Hyderabad, Telangana, India. His real name is Abdul Rauf, and Khair is his pen name. He has made significant contributions to modern Urdu literature, particularly through his poetry, critical writings and research on literary and cultural figures associated with the Deccan.
His published works include Khatt-e-Khair (1997), Ba-Chashm-e-Khair (2007), Qintar (2008), Khairiyat (2010), Haq Goyi-o-Bebaki (2012), Deccan Ki Chand Hastiyan (2014), and Iqbal Ba Chashm-e-Khair (2017). His writings reflect his engagement with Urdu literary traditions, criticism, and the cultural heritage of the Deccan.
