Abstract. This paper examines Kaleemuddin Ahmad’s critical assessment of Akbar Allahabadi’s poetry, highlighting its significance in shaping a deeper understanding of Akbar’s literary and intellectual vision. Ahmad acknowledges the historical relevance of Akbar’s poetry but emphasizes that its lasting value lies in its creative quality rather than its immediate message. He interprets Akbar’s satire as an integral part of his poetic expression and explores his cultural consciousness, commitment to tradition, and critique of mental subjugation under the influence of Western civilization. Ahmad also challenges the common perception that Akbar’s poetry lacks seriousness or the capacity to express profound experiences of life. By examining these critical insights, the paper argues that Ahmad’s observations offer significant new perspectives on the interpretation and appreciation of Akbar’s poetry.
