Abstract. Professor Atiqullah is among the distinguished contemporary critics of Urdu, yet his contribution as a poet has received comparatively less attention. His poetic journey began with Ek Sau Ghazlein (1972), followed by Bain Karta Hua Shahr (1991), Ibarat (2011), Takallum (2016), and Lakeerein (2024). His literary personality is distinguished by his command of both poetry and criticism, fields in which he demonstrates creative individuality, intellectual depth, and a remarkable breadth of reading. The coexistence of his poetic sensibility and critical insight reflects his multifaceted literary talent. His work exemplifies the rare ability to excel in both creative expression and critical discourse within contemporary Urdu literature.
