Abstract. This paper examines the poetics of Dr. Shabnam Ashai’s poetry, focusing on Self, Existence, and Silence. It argues that Ashai transforms silence from mere absence into a powerful poetic presence, where themes of self, loneliness, dreams, and dust are symbolically interrelated. Her poems exhibit a closed inner structure and employ devices like ellipsis, semantic recurrence, and non-linear movement to express existential concerns, making silence itself the most eloquent language of being.
Keywords. Shabnam Ashai, Contemporary Urdu Poetry, Feminist Urdu Poetry.
